Today’s class was mainly on material research . It was the class where each group had to choose two core materials and one combining material . Each group had a presentation and explanation about their materials which gave us a deeper knowledge . For example , pine wood on why does it have five layers mainly to strengthen it but the scientific reason behind it was was water retention which makes a normal wood weaker . Similarly there were many new materials to learn about .Plastic, mesh metal and many more . A surprising fact that i learned about was how each material can harm the environment at different stages . For example aluminium affects the nature during the production similarly plastic impacts the wildlife during the disposing process.
Our main materials were ceramic, metal and fabrics . These were the materials we had a deep research on starting from ceramics which is found in three forms mainly powder,clay and tile . For fabrics we mainly worked on Lycra and net considering the strechability .
Today’s class and preparing for this assignment has taught a lot .It was outside the class to go and explore materials . The understanding we got from this materials will help us during the building of our prototypes.A deep research on materials was the most interesting part.
