Today was the third session of the preference . The class started with the last class assignment where we had to research about any brand and its evolution of its logo similar to pepperfry like we did in last class . Where i had mainly researched upon two brands Victoria Secret and Starbucks .
Victoria Secret established in 1977 by Roy Raymond who was embarssed to buy lingerie for his wife in departmental stores . The logo was retro back then and modern today . The first logo was launced in a sports catalogue with vintage script and fine details . It had both serif and sans serif ones . Serif strokes which are extended features at the end conveying modernity , simplicity and minimalism. They mainly experimented with font weights and proportions before setting close to the current version.Then all the Serif were capitalized in black with white background . Many symbols including monogram , patterns were used for sub brands. In 2000 the company used a customized version of Trajan font from the Adobe created by Carol Twombly in 1989.Then the current logo from which they shifted to MOntype face from Bell type face . Black is used to make the main color look more refined .
Starbucks also has an amazing history for its logo . Where its logo went through changes in 1971,1987,1992 and 2011. It was started by three partners on 30 th March 1971.The trio first named it as Pequod , then mobydick and lastly came down to Starbuck.The main logo has the twin tale mermaid or siren . According to Greek mythology this mermaid who lured sails to shipwreck of south pacific . Main aim being inviting customers from everywhere .Eariler the logo had this Siren and clack bacground . Where a topless women and navel showing qith brown background . This was done to believe how intimdating a coffee should be for everyone same as the Siren . Then it was taken over by Howard . Where new logo design was established with hair covering the women with navel hidden and the color combination of green and white . The main significance of color green was growth, freshness , uniqueness and prosperity . Latly , on its 40 th Anniversary it enlarged the siren with no watermaks and symbols.
This part taught a lot to me . How minute changes in logo aims something different the birth of a logo also has a deeper meaning like the starbucks one . Which until yesterday was a simple women but the resarch and facts are astonishing . The use of colrs and fonts . New thing called as typeface which i learnt making me understand the the different kinds like serif, bell typeface etc.
The next part of the class was introduction to trends . What exactly it is . Something followed by masses but indeed a manifestation among people. Then we also studied about leader in the market how Mc donald evovled in India.The importans and changes on the ongoing market of smartphobes . How predicting future helps to capture the market like reliance . Then we deeply studied in 2020 trends and had discussed our next assignments accordingly.
