Objects as history (week 8)

Today was the class where we had to present our final work . This project gave us so many insights not only history but many other aspects . The best part was we got to choose a topic of our interests.This actually broke the genric saying of history being boring . The process seemed tedious as per writing as my handwriting not being that neat and beautiful . But still i went with a different format to make my project unique and apply my creative aspects .

For this project i only used books from library . As internet didn’t have the accurate or no information at all . It seemed old school to do project from abook without internet . The raw information and its connection through things gave it more of a clear picture .

Two main books i used was 20,000 years of fashion and chanel its fashion history . The book by chanel where she evaluated old art and objects and had her opinions . The the 20,000 years of fashion had varied information and even the economic information which inspired at so many levels . There was too much information to remember but some things will actually stay and make us more knowlegable .

My project mainly based on european history . Where i covered Roman, Germany , spain , portugese and france . In this also there were civilizations like carolign , celts , byzanine etc .

The front cover is a mixture of European dress of male women mainly alll styles comprising of draping techniques . Then my objects also had military costume in each era and all . Therefore i used armour and a sword also in my booklet . As per visual presentation i didn’t make a common booklet but a hanging kind of timeline presntation to give it that aesthectic timeline historical effect .

Lastly the long research here is actually helping me in fashion pathways module . This helped me connect with draping history and techniques that we could actually merge in the modern world .
