SUSTAINABILITY (WEEK 9)

13/03/2020

Today was the class where we had to disuss our materials for the short project . From the list we had to choose our materials . At first my thought was choosing such materials which i haven’t worked on before .But during the discussion we were insited upon choosing which is available .

But i had this very amazing passion of using cork after knowing its properties . A material which is water and oil resistent . A material which finally makes sense why it is used by pirates or in love stories where a glass bottle in closed with a cork cap . Hence a bit of rubber like structure . The waste source i could think of was shampain corks . Next material was rubber silicon which is a material that doesn’t get destroyed foryears . It is mostly used by bakers as moulds .But at instint we needed a material so we went to the dumping areas of college which was under construction and found out rubber pipes .But rubber being similar to silicon is very different to silicon . It can’t be heated and moulded easily .

The search for the moulds are still on the go . But this project is indeed giving depth to learning about the materials .Connecting to space and materiality last semester and understanding properties helped in material selection . The curiosity to experiment and explore not using same materials gave a new perspective altogether .
